Over the years we’ve made many cakes, held many competitions and dressed up in all sorts of costumes (Hallowe’en always leads to some of the most interesting ones!) all in the name of charity. Here at Wheatley we are always on the lookout for ways to support local charities, it’s even better when we can support them by doing something that’s a passion for many of our employees. That’s exactly why we supported Ridefest 2017 – a cycling competition to clock up as many miles in a set time as possible on a static bike.
Being a competitive bunch it felt natural to enter two separate teams, one designed to be the ultra-competitive team and the other we liked to call team ‘Pootle’. Although, pootle we did not! We weren’t far off clocking up the same distance as our competitive colleagues.
Ridefest 2017 asks companies across Suffolk to hop on a static exercise bike and peddle for charity. Overall, we were 23km from placing in the top three with MLM clocking up the most, Beagle Property following and Ipswich Building Society coming in third. You can see the full table of results here.
Of course, we mustn’t forget that we also managed to raise in the region of £350 for St Elizabeth Hospice amidst all the fun from sponsorship money and also from a ‘Guess the total mileage’ competition in the office. So a big thanks must go to everyone who sponsored or supported the two teams. The Hospice will be extremely grateful for your generosity.
As for the competitive nature...never mind team Wheatley – there’s always next year!
